KushielMUX, based on the Kushiel's Legacy series of novels by Jacqueline
Carey, focuses intently on political intrigue roleplay based on the
powerful, prosperous, and liberated country of Terre d'Ange. A mystical
France in an alternate history, Terre d'Ange is a land populated by the
descendants of angels. In Terre d'Ange, the power shifts between the noble
Houses, the Duchies of the country's seven provinces and the minor Houses
constantly circling like sharks, waiting for blood in the water so they can
make their move. The tools of political power are many and varied; personal
influence, the energy to deal with many people, the rumor mill, loyalty,
even the use of one's own body as a weapon to gather intelligence - the
Royal Court is always rife with plots within plots.

Our game, in specific, is high political intrigue mixed with large, arcing
plots and stories. It's set 175 years after the end of the Kushiel's Legacy
series

A recent change in staff and philosophy has new plots unfolding across Terre
d’Ange. The de Morhban throne still reigns, elected through Royal Vote when
the last of the Courcel line died with Queen Elireese fifteen years ago. Yet
now whispers speak to a true Heir having been found, the Queen’s son,
spirited away before her death and raised by Alban monks. Will your
character flock to him to see Elua’s true line restored, or stay loyal to
House de Morhban? Perhaps neither, as the Parliament grows stronger each
day, and some say that the Prime Minister seeks in secret to abolish the
throne altogether, putting governance in the people’s hands.

Want to play as a noble or a politician or even potential royalty? To throw
your effort and influence behind one of these three factions and see it rise
to power? Join us and create a character that can see your vision through.
There are still openings for powerful nobles, influential citizens, radical
priests, and other movers and shakers on our government/feature character
list. The limits are bound only by imagination.

If you have visited us before and are interested in the changes, or if you
have considered trying KushielMUX in the past and never done it, now is the
time. Power and influence are up for grabs, and anyone looking for a
wonderful game in a relaxed environment is welcome to check us out. We can’t
wait to see you!

New Direction [04 Dec 2008|11:35am]

kushielrpg
For those of you still linked to this community who haven't been playing, here's some information about the new direction the game is taking:

Taken from a post by Metatron:

The current game will be dropped back down purely to the city itself rather than anyplace around it. We want to focus on the palace rather than other countries, and there will be some RP surrounding this anyway.

Characters will now have a set of 'skills', called 'Focuses'. A Focus is a character trait that is emphasized and essentially denotes what a character has for a personal strength. There will be a fair sized list of them, and each character can choose 3; certain other characters based on your character application can choose 3. This essentially means that, for example, if you have Armed Combat as a Focus, you will generally be able to beat up people without this focus. If you both have it, then it will mostly end with a stalemate. This is sort of a pseudo-stat system, and is mostly meant to ease conflicts between characters.

The new theme will be thus: 10 years later, there are 3 main factions vying for control of all Terre d'Ange. The Royalty are supporters of the current crown, Athenais and Bastien de Morhban. Many current nobles should support them, but they are growing more unpopular with a disenfranchised plebian society and their inaction against border raids with Skaldic bandits and pirates have irritated some in the outlying provincial areas. The second faction will be based around an emerging heir of Courcel, the son of the last Queen spirited away to Eire and raised in secrecy. Some nobles will defect to this lost Courcel heir who is in truth the rightful ruler of Terre d'Ange, but they will largely be either in secret or will be shunned in the Court since they do not thus support the current rulers. The third faction will be the up-and-coming Parliament, a group of politicians and advisors who wish to abolish hereditary rule in Terre d'Ange completely and replace it with voting. They are highly popular with the plebians but very unpopular with the nobility, though by royal decree they have been allowed in the Court itself as a provisionary Parliament.

These three factions have several supporting smaller factions, including the Cassiline Brothers, the Night Court, and so on. As these factions change in allegiance, their support will change the power of the factions they support. Chargen will be altered slightly to support all this and there will be a few new commands for players to tinker with as they change their own support.

KushielMUX, based on the Kushiel's Legacy series of novels by Jacqueline Carey, focuses intently on political intrigue Roleplay based on the powerful, prosperous, and liberated country of Terre d'Ange. A mystical France in an alternate history, Terre d'Ange is a land populated by the descendants of angels. In Terre d'Ange, the power shifts between the noble Houses, the Duchies of the country's seven provinces and the minor Houses constantly circling like sharks, waiting for blood in the water so they can make their move. And hanging over the squabblings of the country are Terre d'Ange's neighbours, who look to the d'Angelines with a mix of envy and resentment. The tools of political power are many and varied; personal influence, the energy to deal with many people, the rumor mill, loyalty, even the use of one's own body as a weapon to gather intelligence - the Royal Court is always rife with plots within plots.

Our game, in specific, is high political intrigue mixed with large, arcing plots and stories. It's set 150 years after the end of the Kushiel's Legacy series. Things have changed somewhat - the Skaldi have become slightly more civilized, the Caerdicci have become more xenophobic, and there's a brewing war between the Hazaran (Mongols) and the Hanzu (Chinese) that is reaching its culmination in the West. The last of the Courcel line has died out with whispers of scandal attached, and a new royal family reigns to continue the
tradition of monarchy. Yet doubt and scandal cling to this court as thickly as they do any, and new connections with the outside world leave the future of the country uncertain.

The choices of characters range from high ranking nobles to scheming politicians, from seductive courtesans to wily spies, charming shopkeepers, devious criminals, playful gypsies, loyal Cassilines, fanatical priests, brave soldiers...stretch the limits of your imagination. Character generation is simple, and feature characters are still available for the ambitious!

What more could you want in a game? Intrigue, NPCs, a well-described grid, friendly and experienced staff members, a brand new world to play in, change, and integrate yourself with, a rich and detailed setting, political intrigue, backstabbery, fetes and coronations, masques and balls, assasinations and invasions... The potential is infinite. With larger staff run story arcs and smaller scale player run plots running constantly, there is never a shortage of things to get involved in!

Happy New Year [29 Dec 2007|12:11pm]

kushielrpg
Just a quick note from our staff to wish everyone a Happy New Year. 2007 was a wonderful year for us, and even during this holiday season alone we have started to see so many new faces to join in on the fun with our seasoned players. We are delighted with all that everyone has done to contribute to gameplay and to the game community at large. When last I checked the wiki there were 217 articles! People have banded together to create something comprehensive and fun, and I'd like to say thank you for it.

It's been a fabulous year for the game. Joie to all of you, and may the next year bring even more good times.

-your friendly KMUX staffers.

Wiki Picy! [15 Dec 2007|03:56pm]

kushielrpg
Wiki Help!

I know we have picture request pages on the wiki itself, but I also know some of you are way more religious about checking things here, so we decided to cover all of our bases.

We're taking advantage of some extra time that supposedly might be coming up after the holiday rush to add more canon content to the pages. Though we are firm believers that it is the content that really makes the page, and gives people a rich world to sink into, we know that now and then, a nice picture does add something. (1000 words)

So if you are the type to go searching for lovely photography on the web and feel like helping us out, here are at least a few topics we'll be looking into. You can email your results to any of the staffers who work on wiki (Raziel, Zahariel, Cherubim) or you can post them in here if you like! Remember to seek credit too so that we can make sure to credit the source of the pictures! Happy hunting!

Look for pictures that might help flesh out the theme of:

-Alba
-Eire
-Love and Jealousy
-The Longest Night
-Travel (sea, carriage, wagon)
-Tsingani (gypsies)
-Any of the distant lands on our foreign places page.

And of course, the +hangouts project is still looking for lots of pictures that might represent the different places in and around town.

Thanks again

-your friendly KMUX staffers.

Celebrations! [06 Dec 2007|09:49pm]

kushielrpg
KushielMUX is both slightly surprised and very proud to announce itself as the winner of the Award for "Best Historical Text-Based Online RPG" presented at FidoCon II: 2007! We the staff and players of KushielMUX thank Wes Platt and the community over at FidoCon for the honor, and are very excited to have been recognized!

Other FidoCon Award winners from 2007 can be seen here as well as the rest of the jointhesaga website, which presents a good deal of interesting information about the text based roleplaying community, and ideas about the future of text based gaming.

Most of all, I'd like to take this time to thank the -players- of KushielMUX. If we are an amazing game, it is you that has made us so! Thanks for providing a rich and detailed world that new players can sink into and seasoned players can still find enjoyable and engaging. You are all wonderful.

Thanks to the players [17 Nov 2007|02:21am]

kushielrpg
We just wanted to post here to give a bit of praise to all of our players who are working so hard on their journals, and on the wiki. All of the journal pages and the icons look gorgeous. I love reading through them, and love to see that players are enjoying the game enough to want to spend the time adding all these little extras.

And the wiki is -fabulous-. We're up to nearly 100 articles last time I checked. Not only are people making cool character pages, but there are also really neat additions being made to the general canon for the game. I especially love the House pages that the Dowaynes have worked so hard on. I look forward to seeing what people come up with next.

Thanks from your staff for being fabulous.

Mmm, Canon Discussion [14 Nov 2007|10:52pm]

Another fantasy author (whose work I am not familliar with) interviewed JC and asked her some pretty thought provoking questions about the books and the theme of love and religion within. I thought I'd link to them and open up a discussion if they bred any thoughts of our own here.

Warning! For those of you who have not finished ALL of the books in BOTH series, there are HEAVY spoilers in these interviews. Do NOT follow these links or click on this thread in case we discuss them if you don't want to be spoiled!

D'Angeline Virtue! [28 Oct 2007|08:04pm]

kushielrpg
I am bouncing around some ideas in my head for how to relook at the bg system with the questions we'd talked about before, and I have a question for the populace.

What are some of your thoughts about what D'Angelines 'virtues' are. Not those that everyone would have necessarily, but those that particular people might shine in. Obviously the biblical virtues that go with Dante don't work for us. (Temperance and Abstinence? Chastity?)

But surely we have our own? So shout out. What do you think they are?

Dear Darlings [26 Oct 2007|06:22pm]

kushielrpg

A few quick reminders and gentle requests for the members of our illustrious community. One is, please make sure that if you have not joined the kushiel_mux lj  you do ASAP. This is community that staff checks for discussions and refers new players to when they want to see some samples of our characters writing and work. The old community is no longer actively moderated, so it is likely that discussions started there won't be seen by our current/future players.

The other is that we have a fantastic new webspace at www.kushielmux.com. It will soon be the site that all of our links on mudconnector (And the one on Jaqueline Carey's website) points to. Take a look.

We would love to have some of those links to player pages filled out in the near future. If you are interested in making a player page but are not sure how to, OR if you would like to allow the game staff to put a barebones page up for you with a picture and a background, PLEASE let us know. You can post to this thread or send a mail to the staff in game. Jehanne and Evangeline have also offered to help out people wanting to create player pages!

If you know for certain that you are not interested in a player page, please let us know that too so we can change the setting next to your character name to plain text instead of a link.

Let us know if you have any questions!
